Akbar Fort is a fort built by the Mughal emperor Akbar, in 1583. The fort stands on the banks of the Yamuna near its confluence with the river Ganges. It is recognised by the Archaeological Survey of India as a monument of national importance. Akbar named the fort Illahabas ("Blessed by God"), which later became Allahabad. The Allahabad Fort is the largest fort built by Akbar, in its design, construction and craftsmanship. This huge fort has three galleries flanked by high towers. In 1798, the fort was captured by The East India Company.
At present, the fort is used by the army and only a limited area is open to visitors. The outer wall is intact and rises above the water's edge. Inside the fort there is the Zenana, Palace of Mariam-uz-Zamani and the 3rd century BC Asoka pillar. The Saraswati Koop, said to be the source of the Saraswati River, and the Patalpuri temple are also here. Allahabad Fort is the location of the much revered Akshayavat or "immortal tree". In the fort one railway track comes from the Allahabad railway station. This railway track was made by the East India Company for use during the war.

Alfred Park is a must visit tourist destination in the city of Allahabad. Apart from the fact that Alfred Park is the largest park in Allahabad, it has historical significance as well. The park is marked by huge Victoria Memorial & museum that are installed in the very centre. The Park was once the site for official ceremonies at the time of British that were often followed by musical performances of the Police Band. The park became famous during the Indian Freedom Struggle. This was the same place where the famous encounter between the British police and Indian revolutionary took place. It happened so that Azad got cornered in the Alfred Park while he was escaping out after an act. A full unit of the then Allahabad Police cordoned the park and cut the escape route. An hour-long exchange of fire followed but when Azad found that he has only one bullet left in his pistol, he preferred to shoot himself than breaking his vow. The Allahabad High Court or the High Court of Judicature at Allahabad is based in Allahabad that has jurisdiction over the Indian state of Uttar Pradesh. It was established in 1869, making it one of the first high courts to be established in India. Allahabad became the seat of Government of North-Western Provinces and a High Court was established in 1834 but was shifted to Agra within a year. In 1868 it got shifted back to Allahabad.
Sir Walter Morgan, Barrister-at-Law and Mr. Simpson were appointed the first Chief Justice and the first Registrar respectively of the High Court of North-Western Provinces. Allahabad High court was built by Khan Saheb Nizamuddin of Loha Mundi, Agra, India. He also donated the water fountain to the High court. The maximum number of serving judges is 160, the highest in India.

The ancestral home of the Nehru’s, the Anand Bhawan now houses a memorabilia of the Nehru-Gandhi family and is one of the excellent museums of India. Located inside the Allahabad Fort, the pillar has several edicts of Emperor Asoka. This pillar was carried from Kaushambi to the fort and then it was laid here. The date of 232 BC is inscribed on this pillar, along with the Asoka’s instructions and preaching’s. The pillars of Asoka are a series of columns dispersed throughout the northern Indian subcontinent, erected or at least inscribed with edicts by the Mauryan king Asoka during his reign in the 3rd century BC. Originally, there must have been many pillars but only nineteen survive with inscriptions. Many are preserved in a fragmentary state. Averaging between forty and fifty feet in height, and weighing up to fifty tons each, all the pillars were quarried at Chunar, just south of Varanasi and dragged, sometimes hundreds of miles, to where they were erected.

The New Yamuna Bridge is the longest cable-stayed bridge of India, located in Allahabad. The bridge was constructed by the end of 2004 with the aim of minimizing the traffic on the Old Naini Bridge. The bridge runs North-South across the Yamuna River connecting the city of Allahabad to its neighbourhood of Naini.
The total length of the bridge is 1510 Meters with a longest span of 260 Meters which is supported by a cable which stays in concrete anchor bridges. There are two pylons of concrete which provide support to a considerable portion of the deck together with attached steel cables. It was built jointly by Hindustan Construction Company & Hyundai Engineering.

Kaushambi district is one of the districts of Uttar Pradesh state of India, and Manjhanpur town is the district headquarters. Kaushambi district is a part of Allahabad Division. In ancient India it was the capital of the Vatsa Mahajanapada, one of 16 such regions.
Asoka gave importance to Kaushambi and placed a pillar of Asoka in Kaushambi, which has inscriptions there in Pali. A Jaina derasar was also constructed in Kaushambi. Both the pillar and the temple still exist there and the ruins of Vatsa and its university are still being excavated by archaeologists. It is declared and being developed as a prominent Buddhist circuit by the State Government.

Khusro Bagh is a large walled garden, close to the Allahabad Junction Station, in Allahabad, surrounding the tombs of Khusro (died 1622), eldest son of emperor Jahangir, Shah Begum, Khusro's mother (died 1604), a Rajput princess and Jahangir's first wife, and the Princess Sultan Nithar Begam (died 1624),
Khusro’s sister. The three sandstone mausoleums within this walled garden, present an exquisite example of Mughal architecture. The tomb of Khusro, who was first imprisoned within the garden, after he rebelled against Jahangir, in 1606, and later killed in 1622 at the order of Prince Khurram, who was later known as Shah Jahan. His tomb was completed in 1622, while that Khusro’s sister, Nithar Begum, which lies in the middle of the two, was made at her instructions, 1624-25, it however remained empty. The garden has now lent its name to the surrounding locality of Khusrobagh, which is now bustling township.

Standing at Alfred park this building was opened as a memorial to the friendship of Lord Thornhill, the then Commissioner of Allahabad and Mr. Mayne, the then Collector. It was called the "Thornhill and Mayne Memorial". Designed by R.Roskell Rayne, this public library is a remarkable example of Gothic Style. The memorial has a lofty tower and arcaded cloisters. In 1879 the library was shifted to the present premises, at Alfred Park. It has about 75,000 books, besides a treasure trove of manuscripts and journals.

This memorial is basically a large canopy made of Italian limestone is dedicated to Queen Victoria. It was opened on 24th March 1906 by Sir James Latouche.
